Ende 1637 brach der Aufstand aus und entwickelte sich rasch zur einer der größten Rebellionen, die das Reich der aufgehenden Sonne je erlebte. Zehntausende Bauern, Samurai und Rônin kämpften, beseelt von der Kraft ihres Glaubens, gegen die Macht des Shôgunats.
